Del Frisco's Steakhouse - Manhattan, New York

Every year my brother, dad, and I have a “man’s night”, and hit the city in search of one thing: meat. Last year our taste buds brought us to the world renowned, Peter Luger’s in Brooklyn. Peter Luger’s was no easy act to follow, but Del Frisco’s provided us with a phenomenal meal.
For starters, we shared an order of Ahi Tuna Tartare and 12 oysters on the half shell. The tuna tartar was incredible, mixed with a light soy sauce and ginger mixture. While I’ve never been a fan of the oysters on the half shell, they received rave reviews from my brother and old man.
Ordering my main dish was quite the challenge; I didn’t know which type of steak I wanted to go with.Unbeknownst to me, the waiter had a plethora of specials, one of which particularly caught my eye. The special was three, four ounce filet mignons, all topped with a different sauce. The first had a potato and white wine mixture, the second had a brandy sauce with mushrooms, and the third was topped with foie gras.

While the potato and white wine, and brandy steak were delicious, the foie gras steak was out of this world. (For those who don’t know, foie gras is duck liver. It’s especially tasty because of the way it is specially fattened. Safe to say this wasn’t the healthiest meal I’ve ever had.) While I wanted to keep the steak topped with foie gras to myself, I had to reveal its beauty to my fellow diners. Both my brother and dad, to this day, say that is the single best steak dish that they have ever had- and that’s saying something.
With our steaks we also ordered two side dishes, lobster mac & cheese, and onion rings. The lobster mac & cheese was downright ridiculous. The cheese sauce that the pasta shells were bathing in was not only creamy, but extremely flavorful. Throw in the bits of lobster, and I was down for the count. Just too good.

When we ordered the onion rings our expectations weren’t crazy high, like they were for the lobster mac. But when they onion rings came to the table, we were blown away.
These mammoth onion rings were perfect. When it comes to onion rings, I can’t stand when you bite into one and in one bite you pull out the entire onion, leaving only the crispy batter. These were handcrafted in such a way, where that was not an issue. With each bite you would get the perfect ratio of batter to onion, even to the very end. Although they “only” serve you eight, it turned out to be more than enough.
Overall, the meal was amazing from top to bottom. You really can’t compare Del Frisco’s to Peter Luger’s. Peter Luger’s keeps it simple, but does their menu items better than anyone. Del Frisco’s on the other hand takes risks. Again, I can’t stress enough how good that filet topped with foie gras was. Del Frisco’s has locations all over the country, which kind of goes against what we do here at WW. It’s such high quality though, I would never dream of depriving our loyal followers of a whistle.
